The ground may be too hard to work at the moment, but if you are preparing any soil in the garden look out for queen bees. They can sometimes be found in the soil and if you do unearth one don’t rebury it. Gently find something to slip underneath it, like a thin piece of card and use it to carry it out of the way to a place which is cold and dry and where it can continue to hibernate. Offer a solution of equal parts of sugar and water in a bottle top or something similar. This will provide a new hibernation site and boost its energy levels and it might establish an early nest.
