Keep bird feeders and bird tables topped up and check bird baths daily to make sure there is a good supply of clean water and that it has not frozen. It’s a good idea to place a few small stones in the water as an escape route for animals and insects that find themselves unexpectedly in the water and the stones can be gently moved if the water is icy to break the ice and make the water accessible again.
Check bird boxes and clean out any old nests and nesting materials. Remember to do this outside and if it seems dusty wear a face mask. Wear gloves as the materials may be mucky. Make sure that any repairs are done on bird boxes and bird tables ready for the springtime and that boxes are fixed securely in place to stop damage to them and any birds choosing to nest in them.
Resist from cutting back all your ivy as the berries are important for birds for food in late winter.
