Here at Lindengate we have been trialling 3 different types of grain – wheat, rye and oats, this year, with the intention of making some harvest tokens and corn dollies with our participants.

‘Once given, it became a symbol of the budding romance. If the recipient wore the token to church, the giver would know their affection was returned. If the relationship blossomed, the token would be displayed at the wedding and in the marital home’ (extract taken from visions.eghammuseum.org).

We were given 3 areas measuring 3 x 3 metres to seed, look after, and harvest. These areas have just been cut, shortly the participants will be able to have a go at plaiting the stalks of these crops (once they have been soaked for a short while) and creating something beautiful.
