Description

At just 15cm tall, flowers are violet, with a dark purple spur behind the petals and up to 18mm wide, they are darker in the centre. A woodland plant it is a key food source for five of Britain’s most threatened butterflies: pearl-bordered fritillary, small pearl-bordered fritillary, high brown fritillary, silver-washed fritillary and dark green fritillary.

It is named after a German Botanist, Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach, who specialised in Orchids. He has actually got about a dozen different flowers named after him but someone must have felt that he needed a violet.
