Our Garden

What used to be old allotments have been transformed to create a biodiverse, eco-friendly haven that has successfully encouraged many additional species on to the site. Wild ponds, flower meadows and a nature reserve thrive in harmony with, for example, a sensory garden, Apothecary Garden, alpine border, extensive kitchen gardens, and water features. All further enhanced by inspiring art and craft and construction projects that volunteers and people on programmes have made over the years.

We are now also home to two RHS Chelsea Gold Award Winning Exhibits.

  • Apothecary Garden

Apothecaries were the forerunners to pharmacists, known for having healing herbs and plants with restorative properties for people’s wellbeing and health.

  • The Swale

Swales are a type of sustainable drainage system which slows run-off, intercepts and filters pollutants as well as helping natural infiltration into soil.

  • The Heritage Orchard

Our Heritage Orchard is part of a movement to conserve heritage fruit trees and pass on traditional orchard management skills. We have apples, pears and plums.

  • Kitchen Garden

The kitchen garden exists as a space to allow people to explore, taste, forge and experience the joy of using fresh produce to cook meals during our sessions.

  • Yurt Garden

The Yurt was established as an alternative inside space for workshops, meetings and events with a secluded garden and haven for wildlife.

  • Nature Reserve

Situated in our Nature Reserve is our hide and pond, inspired by the Chelsea award winning, A Rewilding Britain Landscape garden designed by Urquhart & Hunt.

  • Nature is a Fragile Beauty

This stunningly beautiful hand sculpture was part an award winning floral installation which won Gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2021 by the ‘In Water Flowers’ florist company.

  • Sensory Garden

This space is used for sensory enrichment and relaxation as well as mental stimulation and fun. It includes sculptures, water features and space to relax.

  • Tree & Native Wildflower Nurseries

Our specialist onsite horticultural team propagate the rare Black Poplar trees on site. We are working to create a sustainable collection for future generations.

  • The Labyrinth

Our Labyrinth has been designed as a beautiful space for personal reflection. Labyrinths have been around for well over 4000 years to help people recover their balance in life.
