Our Grow, Cook, Learn course is designed for 16-25 year olds, offering a structured and inclusive learning environment rooted in nature-based education, practical life skills, and wellbeing activities.

Delivered every Tuesday, between 9:30am to 12:30pm and/or 1pm-4pm during term-time, this course aims to enhance confidence, independence, employability and personal development through alternative nature-based provision.

During the course students will complete a range of units aligned with programme themes. Each unit includes clear outcomes, evidence of learning, and certification from AQA. Progress will be monitored through a combination of methods to ensure a well-rounded view of each participants development.

Course Outline

  • Gardening & Growing

    Tool handling, soil preparation, planting, seasonal growing fruit and veg, composting, harvesting, cut seasonal cycles, sustainable living, plant identification, wildlife gardening and biodiversity.

  • Conservation & Bushcraft

    Habitat restoration, wildlife surveys, shelter building, fire safety, natural navigation, tree identification and planting, foraging, natural rope making, willow weaving and plant care.

  • Garden Design & Landscaping

    Practical landscaping skills, styles and history of gardens, shaping outdoor spaces, site analysis, understanding shape, sustainability and ecology of land, colour, focal points, and form.

  • Heritage & Craft Skills

    Green woodworking, traditional crafts, natural art, painting, mosaic designing, felting and dry clay pottery.

  • Cooking & Nutrition

    Preparing meals from garden-grown produce, learning about healthy eating, food origins, preserving, nutrition awareness, food hygiene and kitchen safety.

  • Wellbeing & Life Skills

    Group discussion, problem solving, teamwork, leadership, responsibility roles, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy.

FAQs

  • Lindengate is an alternative provision provider. Anyone aged 16-25 years olds can attend the course but is particularly suited to young people who struggle with traditional educational settings.

    We welcome enquiries from local authorities, EHCP coordinators, SEN coordinators, parents and carers as well as young people interested in outdoor learning and engagement. If you are under 16 our friends Strive IA, who operate from Lindengate gardens may be able to help.

  • Our hands on course will allow you to gain practical skills in gardening, conservation, bushcraft, landscaping and creative arts. As well as developing interpersonal skills and building personal resilience.

  • Students will complete a range of units with the aim of gaining AQA Unit Award Scheme accreditations. Students will also receive a personalised portfolio and attendance certificate highlighting their progress and practical achievements.

  • Progress will be monitored through a combination of methods to ensure a well-rounded view of each participants development such as learning journals, observations, photographic and video evidence and feedback from facilitators.
